The North Sea
Museum/Oceanarium is one of Europe's largest oceanaria.
The Ocenarium opened 1 May 1998 and is a gigantic aquarium with 4.5 million litres of sea
water. The large aquarium is specially designed to hold the pelactic shoals of fish that
live in the North Sea.
Hirtshals Museum is housed in an old fisherman's home form 1880
built of fieldstone. The house is decorated with things and furniture from 1915 and shows
how a fisherman's family lived at that time.
Hirtshals Lighthouse is built in 1862. It is 35 metres tall and
placed on a hill 27 metres above sea level. From the top of the lighthouse there is a
grand view over the sea, the coast and the countryside. The lighthouse is still operating.
The old merchant's house in Tornby is a 200-year old convenience
store with original decor form 1860. In the old house you can see how people on the coast
lived as farmers, sailors and pedlars.
